Not Your Grandfather's Private Club: How Birch Road Does Things Differently

Private clubs are having a moment. In Chicago, Seattle, and Denver, new membership clubs have been opening alongside the older established ones, and the options range widely in price, focus, and feel. If you have been researching social clubs in any of these cities you have probably noticed that most of them fall into one of two categories. And Birch Road is neither.
The Amenity Club
One category is built around what the building contains. A rooftop pool. A full gym. Private dining rooms. Meeting suites with AV equipment. These clubs are impressive and the amenities are real, but they come at a price. Memberships at amenity-heavy clubs in Chicago, Seattle, and Denver typically run several hundred dollars a month, with initiation fees that can reach into the thousands. You are paying for the infrastructure, and if you use everything on offer (or if price is not a factor), it can be worth it.
But most people do not use everything. They use a few things, occasionally, and spend the rest of their membership quietly wondering if it is worth renewing.
The Business Club
The second category is built around who else is in the room. Downtown locations, professional networking events, a membership that reads like a LinkedIn directory. These clubs serve a real purpose for people who want to build business connections, meet clients in a polished setting, or be seen in the right circles. They tend to be formal, a little transactional, and very good at what they do.
What they are not particularly good at is the kind of relaxed, unhurried social connection that actually makes people happy. When every interaction is a potential business opportunity, it changes the texture of the room.
What Birch Road Is
Birch Road is a private social club in the neighborhoods, not the business districts. Our locations in Lincoln Park and Roscoe Village in Chicago, First Hill in Seattle, and The Highlands in Denver are deliberately residential. The people who join us are not primarily looking for business connections or amenities. They are looking for an extension of their home.
Membership starts at $145 a month with a one time $60 enrollment fee and no annual contract. No gym. No rooftop pool. No restaurant. What you get instead is a private space with fast Wi-Fi, good coffee, personal temperature controlled cellar storage for your bottles, fingerprint access, and a community of roughly 200 members at each location who are genuinely interesting people living full lives in your city.
Everything is BYOB. That means no bar tab, no markup, no food and beverage bills at the end of the month. You bring what you love, you share it with people you like, and you keep what is left in your locker for next time.
How to Think About the Difference
If you are looking for a club with a pool and a restaurant and a place to host client dinners, Birch Road is probably not your answer. There are good options for that in all three cities and they do it well.
If you are looking for somewhere that feels like a home away from home, where you can work during the day and share a bottle with friends in the evening, where the membership is affordable enough to actually make sense and the community is the kind you did not know you were missing, Birch Road is worth a look.
Private clubs in Chicago, Seattle, and Denver range from $150 to $1,000 or more per month depending on location, amenities, and prestige. Birch Road sits at the accessible end of that range intentionally. We believe the best private club experience is one you actually use, not one you aspire to afford.
