How Birch Road Clubhouse is exactly the same but totally different from Columbia Tower

It’s big news – Columbia Tower is closing after 40+ years in Seattle. Who knows the real reason behind the decision, but the truth is, these traditional institutions are aging communities that are not able to adapt to current trends (maybe that’s why they are focusing on The Collective instead?).
For all the Columbia Tower members, we have good news! Birch Road Clubhouse welcomes you!
We are accepting new members and would love to adopt the food and wine loving members, the daytime quiet co-working members, the whiskey enthusiasts or the aspiring collector members. It’s true that Birch Road is very different from what you might be used to at Columbia Tower – but that was always the plan and our members love us for it.

A little about us: Birch Road First Hill opened in 2016 in the landmarked Stimson-Green Mansion property. The female founders still own the club and can often be found at the bar sipping wine or in the corner catching up on emails. Today, the club consists of roughly 200 members – that perfect size where you will always see some familiar faces but also have the opportunity to meet someone new on each visit. Birch Road is open 365 days a year from 8:00 AM to 1:00 AM, even on weekends!
While Birch Road does tend to be a lively place where friends gather for drinks or enjoying a dinner out – everything is BYO. There are no restaurants or bartenders, which means the possibilities for your evening are endless! Take out is always welcomed and each member gets their own personal locker in a temperature-controlled cellar so that a good drink is always at hand. Members stock their locker with what they love, whether that is Japanese whiskies or Oregon Pinot Noir. It’s all about making the night what you want.
During the day, the clubhouse transforms into a welcoming and flexible workspace.
Members can drop in anytime—no reservations, no keycards—just a quick fingerprint scan for secure, seamless access. The Wi-Fi is fast, the coffee and tea are always flowing, and the spaces are designed for both collaboration and focus. Work in the sun-filled communal hayloft or settle into a quieter dining room overlooking First Hill Park.

Of course, the historic setting, extended hours, and thoughtful amenities are just part of the story. What truly defines Birch Road is its community. Each week brings a full calendar of exclusive member events—from creative art nights and port cocktail classes to chef-led dinners and wine bottle shares. There are cocktail competitions, neighborhood cleanups, and everything in between. Beyond events, members can join a wide range of miniclubs—small, passion-driven groups centered around shared interests like wine, whiskey, romance novels, or creative writing, to name a few. New groups form all the time, shaped by the evolving interests of the community (mahjong, anyone?).
And while you won’t find a traditional staff of hosts, bartenders, or servers, the clubhouse is thoughtfully maintained by a dedicated team. The Seattle Clubhouse Manager, Ashley, is available seven days a week to support members, foster connections, and bring new ideas to life. Many of our most memorable events and experiences begin as simple member suggestions—which are always welcome.
So yes—Birch Road is different. It’s a place where independence replaces formality, where community grows organically, and where your experience is entirely your own to shape. For those seeking a next chapter after Columbia Tower, come for a tour at Birch Road. We may not have the skyline view, but we’ll trade it for a comfortable place to call our own any day.
